This is a food web. A food web is different individual food chains that all from the same ecosystem connected together to show the travel of energy through an ecosystem.
This food web is from the arctic ecosystem.
This is a food chain. A food chain goes up in trophic levels depending on what the specific organism consumes. A producer (also known as the 1rst order consumer) is the first trophic level, it makes its own food from photosynthesis. In the food chain above plankton is our producer because he is an organism that makes his own food and lives in the Arctic Ocean. The primary consumer (also known as the 2nd order consumer) is the 2nd trophic level. Primary consumers get its energy by eating the producers. In the food chain above krill is our primary consumer because it eats plankton and lives in the arctic ocean. Secondary consumers (also known as 3rd order consumers) are the 3rd trophic level. Secondary consumers get their energy from eating the primary consumers. The penguin is our secondary consumer because it eats krill which is our primary consumer. Lastly the Tertiary consumer gets its energy from consuming the secondary consumer. The leopard seal eats our secondary consumer the penguin.
